A Look Inside Our Shoreditch Studio

When we designed the Labs Fitness studio, we started with a question most gym developers do not ask: what does a training floor look like when it is built purely around the member's performance, rather than around fitting in as many machines and memberships as possible? The answer turned out to look quite different from a standard commercial gym.
Space per member is generous. Every station has room to work without feeling crowded by the person next to you. The equipment is positioned to allow natural movement patterns — not squeezed in wherever it fits. There are no narrow corridors between machines, no awkward angles, no stations that face the wall because the floor plan ran out of space.
We are based on Long Street in Shoreditch, E2 — a short walk from Old Street station, Bethnal Green Road, and the border with Hoxton. Deliberately away from the main commercial strips, which keeps the environment quieter and means members are not navigating through tourist and lunch-hour traffic to get here. For City workers and those in the tech corridor between Old Street and Liverpool Street, it is a straightforward commute.
The equipment was selected to serve serious training rather than to impress on a tour. You will find a full free weights section with a comprehensive range of barbells, dumbbells to heavy specification, and calibrated plates; power racks with safety attachments; cable stations that allow both vertical and horizontal pulling patterns; and a selection of targeted machines for accessory and isolation work. Nothing is included because it photographs well. Everything earns its floor space.
Form-check mirrors are positioned throughout the studio, not as an afterthought but as an active training tool. Seeing yourself perform a movement in real time is one of the fastest ways to internalise technique, and it is something large gyms frequently get wrong — either too few mirrors, or placed at angles that are not useful for the movements being performed.
The changing facilities are clean, well-maintained, and private. There is a dedicated changing area, secure storage for your belongings during your session, and access to the recovery suite for Peak Plus members or those with standalone bookings. The whole experience is designed to feel like a professional training environment, not a shared public facility.
Lighting and acoustics matter more than they are usually given credit for. The studio uses controlled lighting that is energising without being harsh, and the sound environment is managed so you can hear your music or have a conversation with your coach without competing with nightclub volume. It sounds like a small detail. Members notice it on the first visit.
The recovery suite sits adjacent to the main training floor but is completely self-contained — separate entrance, its own shower, changing area, and mirrors. When the sauna is in use, it does not affect the noise or temperature of the main floor. When you are in the suite, you are entirely away from the gym, which is intentional. Recovery should feel like a genuine break from effort.
We operate at capped membership numbers specifically to maintain the quality of this environment. A floor that works well for 50 members stops working the moment it takes 200. The infrastructure — equipment condition, space, noise level, availability — all depend on keeping numbers controlled. When we describe Labs Fitness as a boutique gym in Shoreditch, that word means something specific: deliberately small, deliberately premium.
The best way to understand the studio is to come and see it. We offer free studio tours at any point, and free consultations for anyone considering personal training with one of our coaches. Reach out through the contact page and we will arrange a time that suits you.
